Friday
Ann Carol worked until noon today and the girls were in school until noon. After Glenn finished his early morning visit with the chiropractor he came by our motel and took us to Country Waffles for breakfast. Jerry and I shared a huge plate of scrambled eggs with onions and bell pepper, one third pound sausage patty and french toast with country gravy. We were both stuffed by the time we finished it.
Glenn gave us a driving tour of the Berkley hills before noon. It is unbelievable how they build houses here on the side of the hills. Some of the houses that were built down hill from the road used the roof space for parking their cars!
After a picnic lunch on tables at the back of Northcreek Church - Ann Carol and the girls met us there - we drove to Mill Valley about 12 miles north of the Golden Gate. There we found our way along a winding road to Muir Woods.
Here we are packing the van for our trip.

The road to the park was steep and narrow with no guard rail above 500 ft canyons. We kept telling Glenn to keep his eyes on the road!

The feeling is indescribable as we walk among these ancient giants. Some of these trees tower over 200 feet tall and are about 2000 years old! The light is dim at the forest floor making some of my pictures a little dim and blurred.

Many of the trees have charred trunks even though the ranger said there has not been a forest fire in this area for over 150 years. Time seems to stand still here.

Jerry sat on a bench at the trail entrance while we hiked through the woods. Glenn went back to stay with her while the girls and I went a little deeper into the woods.

Here the girls are posing in the hollow of a tree.

There was a small stream flowing through the canyon even though this is near the end of the dry season with about 6 months without rain. According to one sign this is the warmest time of the year. This afternoon the temperature was around 60 degrees.

At one point I noticed people stopping on the trail and pointing their cameras into the underbrush. This is what I saw -- (click on the arrow to play the video.)
After getting hamburgers at In-And-Out they dropped us off at our motel for the night.

I couldn't get the video to play, but you got some beautiful pictures! Looks like a fun day!
Hey, it played on my dail-up. Are those trees bigger than the Pecans down here?
