Grandview Helps Out

On Monday after IKE blew across Galveston and Houston on Saturday residents of Grandview wondered what they could do to help. It seemed that water and ice were the immediate needs. With a little cooperation between local churches and community leaders we were able to send two eighteen wheeler loads to the Houston area. Ken Davis and Gene Harris Petroleum each volunteered a truck tractor to pull the loads. David's Supermarkets supplied a trailer filled with water. Some bottled water on pallets and the remainder of the load was gallon jugs filled at David's milk bottling plant near Sand Flat. Burgandy Pasture Beef provided a refrigerated trailer and the ice plant at Whitney filled it with bagged ice.

Several men from FBC and perhaps others went with the loads to drive and help with unloading. The water went to a underprivileged area of Houston where most of the residents walked to the truck with families and several young men assisted with the unloading. The water was all taken in a very short time.

This past week our pastor received a call from Somebody Cares America asking if we had any more trucks available. Someone in Ft. Worth had donated 5 truckloads of flooring material that need to be hauled to the Beaumont area churches and non-profits. I don't know who furnished the trucks this time but two of our members drove loads to Beaumont this week-end. Local churches have cooperated to raise funds for fuel and other expenses. It has given a good feeling for our community to be involved in the relief effort.
