Its So Good To Be Home

Dumplin and Bob Barker were both glad to see me and the recliner felt soooo good. I like to travel and see new country but my back doesn't like spending that much time in the driver's seat.

Today we traveled through southeastern Oklahoma. There were lots of hills and small mountains all covered with conifers. At the highest point the GPS registered just over 2000 feet elevation. Soon however we came to a wide very level lowland with acres and acres of corn almost ready for harvest. This was the Red River valley. It is very wide on the Oklahoma side at this point just south of Idabelle. The elevation here was only 330 feet and the river is wide and shallow, only a few feet below the level of the surrounding bottomland.

We stopped at McDonalds in Terrell for the free Wi-Fi and sent some photos to Walmart in Waxahachie so that we could pick up the prints on our way home. I think I will go to bed early tonight.

Driving Fun

The Prius has been carrying a full load on this trip - three people and a fully packed cargo area. The trip from Grandview to Wichita, KS gave a mileage rating of 51 MPG at highway speed thanks to a good tailwind. We refilled the tank and only got 50 MPG for the rest of the trip and our short drives around the Bolivar area. Today we filled up in Bolivar and have averaged 53 MPG on these winding, climbing and coasting roads of the Ozarks. The somewhat slower speed on these roads allowed optimum engine speeds for the climbing and a dead engine for the downhill coasting.

We stopped in this shady lane in the Ozarks to stretch our legs for a few minutes.

We are in Van Buren Arkansas tonight just outside Fort Smith. We had time to do a little caching before bedtime and saw a barge going under the railroad drawbridge on the Arkansas River.

The depot in Van Buren still has a semaphore in good condition.

An excursion train runs from this station.

I saw these pretty flowerbeds in a yard near one of our backyard Bible Club meeting sites.

Wednesday

After work today everyone cleaned up, put on our shirts and returned to Collins for Wednesday night worship.

Can you read all the things that we do on mission trip? Click on the picture to enlarge.

Will liked the part about eating with Ben so he asked Ben to pose with him for a picture.

Monday....

was a very busy day at the construction site. I went to Collins with the workers early, drove the bus back to Bolivar, then drove the VBS workers to Collins. After lunch I drove them back to Bolivar and took the bus back to Collins. We have a few pictures here.
