Breakfast at McDonalds

We left home before sunup and had breakfast at McDonalds in Cleburne. I dropped Jerry off at Wal-mart (the parking lot was almost empty on Saturday morning) and went to the feed store for a load of cattle feed. Had to wait for the store to open, loaded the feed and returned to find Jerry had just finished her shopping. I quickly found a few items and met her in the checkout line. Marvin helped me unload the feed when we returned home.

Windy day

Strong north wind blew all day long today. It was sunny but still unpleasantly chilly with the strong wind.

After feeding the cows I hauled a load of water for the cows near the cemetery then drove the hay truck to Grandview to get a U-joint replaced. The mechanic was gone so I went by the church to check on some spreadsheet programming that the secretaries wanted.

This afternoon while walking the fenceline by South Chambers I noticed a few puddles of water have formed in the bottom of the creek. So far I haven't seen any water rising in the North Chambers creek by the cemetery.

I noticed a smoke in the northwest and heard on the radio that a grass fire near Joshua was threatening about 25 homes. According to the news on TV tonight some of the lawns burned but no homes. Most of the fire news on TV was about a grass fire at DFW. The DFW fire dept put it out loosing only about 25 acres of grass between the highway where the fire started and a runway. Flights were halted for a few minutes due to heavy smoke.

Jerry seems to be feeling better today but still tires easily.

Groceries getting low

Monday began with helping Marvin feed the cows then I had a meeting with Eugene Bruner who will be renting a part of the Wyrick farm this year.

Jerry has been telling me for several days that we were running low on groceries and that her list was getting longer so we went to Wal-mart in the afternoon. She gave me half of the list and we loaded two baskets before checking out. I bought some more 22 shells just in case we have any more varmints around the homestead.


Our little car was overloaded even before the baskets were empty. At the time of this shot the basket was still half full!



Cleburne was decorated for Martin Luther King day today. These flags were lining the street by the city hall and greeted us as we came over the overpass on highway 67. There were probably 75 to 100 flags in this one block stretch. The rest of the downtown area had a flag on every parking meter. It was pretty impressive.





I just returned from a grass fire on the Auburn pasture by the cattle guard on E P Dawson road. Fred Smith saw the fire about 10 pm and said there were car lights leaving the scene. The fire started on the north side of the cattle guard and was burning into a strong north wind so did not travel very fast. Also we have had a little light rain today which increased the moisture in the dead grass. It only burned about 150 feet out into the pasture.

Maypearl responded with 4 brush trucks and did a good job staying until all the cow patties were extinquished. Jeff took a picture with his cell phone but had to go to bed so I will send a picture maybe tomorrow night.

Sunday

Jerry went to Sunday School but her leg was hurting so I brought her home before the worship service. After lunch Jeff and his family came by for a tour of the construction sites.

Jerry attended the evening worship service using only a cane. Daniel preached both services today in Russell's absence and did a fantastic job.
