Friday

Andy has a ball game after school today. I helped feed cows this morning and then worked on the books for a while and paid some bills. Had to go to the post office to mail some tax forms to the IRS so we stopped at Subway for lunch.

After lunch I watched the construction work for a while. After supper we went to Andy's ballgame at the high school.

After the ballgame we drove to Venus where the kids ate supper while I uploaded pictures on the free wireless connection at Whataburger.

Nanny Seems Stronger

Nanny is moving around a little today and has eaten some feed in addition to the slice of bread that I gave her.

I hauled some cattle to the auction this morning and will likely cull a few more as soon as the calves are big enough to wean. We are going to barely have enough hay to last through the winter.

Cold then warm

We had a good frost this morning with a temperature at 27 degrees. With light winds and clear skies the day soon warmed to a comfortable level and topped out in the lower 70's this afternoon.



Dumplin and Black Dog enjoyed the early morning sun.

I had an appointment for dental cleaning this morning at ten so that took most of my morning. The dentist wants me to return for some repair work on the tooth that was patched several years ago.




Nanny moved out into the sun this morning while it was still cold and later moved back into the shadows as the day warmed.





We had a beautiful sunset today.







Later I saw Nanny eating some dry leaves near the house.

Welcome Rain

Slow rain with intermittent showers Saturday night and Sunday brought us a little over one inch of much needed rainfall. Today the ground was still soft and messy around the cattle feeding areas. Four wheel drive was required in a couple of places. This is a good "start" toward a more normal weather pattern.

Nanny's condition is difficult to diagnose. She has remained in the same place all day beside the front porch but has eaten some bread when I gave it to her. Her neck is swollen and she has difficulty making sounds. I guess only time will tell whether she is able to survive.

I had to go to Waxahachie on business this afternoon so I sent some jpeg files to Wal-mart for printing. Some were low resolution pictures that I made yesterday at church with the still feature of my new camcorder. The prints turned out to be very good even though the photography site said that they were not suitable for printing in 4X6 inch format.

Lynne has been in Austin today for school training so Jerry took the boys to school and picked them up this afternoon.

Jake has been on leash or in the trailer all day but I did take him for a run beside the golf car. He does well on a leash.

Nanny is Critical

Jake took Nanny down today. After lunch I told the boys to turn Jake out to let him run for a while. In his exuberance of running and playing with the boys he frightened Nanny who started to run and that was just the trigger he needed to attack. He got her by the throat and did considerable damage. She lost blood and is gurgling when she breathes. I fear that her windpipe may be punctured.















Black Dog offers his sympathy by lying close to her on the porch. I couldn't get a picture of that because he comes to me every time I open the door. Black Dog has been sleeping out in the yard until Nanny's injury. Now he is staying close to her.
